Bullet found in Sandia High School bathroom, parents outraged over possible gun on campus

Albuquerque –

As we told you, Sandia High School was in emergency shelter at approximately 9:34 a.m. due to safety concerns, according to Albuquerque Public Schools. Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Public School Police responded to the school and placed the school on lockdown. The security risk was a possible firearm on campus.

Police investigated the scene and, according to a letter sent to APS parents, it was learned that APS had found a bullet in a high school bathroom.

A concerned local parent told us it wasn’t just a bullet, but a real weapon. She said two boys went into a bathroom and tried to load a gun. An uninvolved student walked in as she was loading the gun, and the two perpetrators panicked and dropped the gun. They retrieved it and rushed out of the bathroom.

The mother further said that while she was waiting for the lockdown to end, she saw the two boys and they approached her and said that they were involved. She told them to return to an APS police officer outside the school. The two boys went to the APS officer and went back to school. She eventually called the APS department to inform them of the information and was frustrated that police were not checking the area outside the school for a discarded gun.

We observed a Christ Lutheran School employee searching the area near his school for a possible firearm. He walked up the street and found nothing.

After the lockdown was over, we observed plainclothes APS officers escorting a student who the mother said had been involved in the neighborhood. It is unclear whether he brought the gun to police.

We have no idea if anyone will be charged with bringing the bullet onto campus. They are minors and the crimes they commit against adults remain hidden from the public. The mother who witnessed all this said she was withdrawing her student from APS and wanted to homeschool her.
