A’ja Wilson says “all eyes are on us” during the Olympics and WNBA season
With the WNBA’s popularity on the rise, the U.S. women are seeking their record-tying eighth consecutive gold medal at the Paris Olympics this summer.
The medal games in women’s basketball will take place on the last day of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. At this year’s games, the US team will compete against France for the gold medal.
Team USA is the only undefeated team in the tournament. They won their group matches by an average margin of nearly 20 points per game. In the quarterfinals, Nigeria fought back in the fourth quarter, but Team USA still won 88-74. In the semifinals, Team USA knocked Australia out of the gold medal race with an 85-64 victory. With this win, the team extended its Olympic winning streak to 60 games and reached its eighth consecutive gold medal game.

Host France lost its group final 79-72 to Australia, but rebounded in the quarterfinals with an 84-71 victory over Germany. Surprising Belgium beat unbeaten Spain in the quarterfinals, but France completed its Cinderella story with an 81-75 victory. This victory gave France only its second appearance in the gold medal game, the other being against Team USA in London in 2012.
