Kanye West ‘Destroyed’ Malibu Mansion Before Selling; New owner criticizes “stupid move”

Kanye West’s latest stunt has left his former Malibu mansion in shambles, leaving its new owner scratching his head. The once-pristine architectural gem, designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, has been completely gutted and “destroyed” following West’s failed renovation attempt, claims new owner and California-based CEO Bo Belmont in an interview with the LA Times. The outlet also reported that Belmont plans to spend $6 million to $8 million on a redevelopment to restore the Japanese architect’s original design.

Kanye West made “stupid changes” to his Malibu mansion before selling it

Real estate crowdfunding firm Belwood Investments stepped in this week to save Kanye West’s architectural disaster. After the property’s value dropped to just $21 million. The company’s CEO expressed disappointment with West’s changes to the building, calling them “a really stupid move” with no “purpose” and promising to restore the property to its original condition. Belmont explained: “He single-handedly destroyed this architectural masterpiece. My goal is to make it like Kanye was never there.”

According to the report, Kanye West’s makeovers were extremely strange. The rapper removed essentials like windows, doors, electrical and plumbing lines, and wanted to turn the house into a play area with things like a slide and trampolines. Furthermore, he probably intended to completely camouflage the exterior of the property.

To restore the mansion to its original condition, Belwood Investments partnered with Marmol Radziner, the original design and construction company involved in the home’s construction. With over 500 investors backing the project, Belwood hopes to successfully renovate the property and sell it for a profit, ensuring it “remains a Malibu gem.”

“It would have required a thorough review… There is a process and he does things his own way and the city of Malibu doesn’t care who you are, they will hold you accountable,” Belmont added, according to the LA Times.

The mansion was originally listed for sale in December 2023 and had an asking price of $53 million.
