Victor Wembanyama towers over Chris Paul at the Spurs photoshoot

For most of the NBA, the 2024-25 season officially began Monday with the annual media day extravaganza. That meant the annual parade of quotes from players about the future of this season, as well as our first look at some big names on new teams.

Among those donning a new jersey for the first time was Chris Paul, as the future Hall of Famer is now in San Antonio on a one-year deal to help the Spurs take a step forward. The main reason the Spurs pursued CP3 this summer was because they wanted to bring in a highly skilled passing point guard in Victor Wembanyama for his second season. Wemby and the Spurs got off to a slow start last year as they were in experimental mode, but when they brought Victor into the starting lineup at center and Tyus Jones at point guard, Wembanyama took off and looked like he was already a top-20 prospect. NBA player his way to a ROY win and a DPOY runner-up finish. The addition of Paul should allow Spurs to play 48 minutes at point guard, a significant improvement on last year, and Wemby expects he will benefit from having another player to pass the ball to him can get into the right position and throw lobs to him.

On Monday, Paul and Wembanyama were together in a Spurs jersey for the first time as the team took media day portraits, and while Paul, 39, is almost twice the age of Wembanyama, 20, it is CP3 who looks like a child next to Wemby The difference in height between the young center and the experienced guard is clear when they stand side by side.

Chris Paul is listed as 6’3″ tall, and while that’s perhaps an inch or two generous, he’s still above average height for a man and still looks like a toddler next to Victor. NBA players standing next to Wembanyama is truly an incredible genre of sports photography right now, whether he’s making guards look like kids or making 7-foot-tall players like Rudy Gobert look normal.
