Detroit Lions vs. Seattle Seahawks, Monday, September 30

In each of the last two seasons, the Lions lost high-scoring duels – 37:31 and 48:45 – against the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field. We saw another track and field duel between these two clubs at Ford Field on Monday night, but it was the Lions who found a way to prevail, 42-29.

Detroit’s offense finally came to life in a big way.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff was perfect on the night (18-for-18), David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combined for three touchdowns, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams had touchdown catches and even Goff caught a touchdown as the Lions’ offense exploded for nearly 400 yards and 42 scores.

After both teams traded punts on their first possession, Detroit started its second drive on its own 7-yard line. No problem. Goff orchestrated a 12-play, 93-yard drive that included seven Montgomery runs for 39 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead. It is the fourth straight game in which Montgomery has scored a touchdown.

Detroit’s third possession began with a much better field possession thanks to Detroit’s defense. Linebacker Jack Campbell knocked the ball loose from Seattle wide receiver DK Metcalf at the Detroit 34-yard line. It was recovered by cornerback Carlton Davis III and returned to the Seattle 14-yard line. From there, the offense needed just three plays to take a 14-0 lead after a 3-yard touchdown run by Gibbs.
