Bournemouth vs Southampton LIVE: News, results and updates on the Premier League team

Bournemouth picked up a comfortable Premier League victory over south coast rivals Southampton, whose dismal start to the season continued at the Vitality Stadium.

The result catapults Bournemouth to 11th in the table and the result seemed little in doubt after record signing Evanilson got the Cherries on their way – the Brazilian striker reacting sharply to Marcus Tavernier’s quickly taken free-kick to flick the ball past Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale locks.

From that point on, Andoni Iraola’s side took full control against a 19th-placed Southampton team with just a single point to their name from their first six games of the season.

With Lewis Cook and Ryan Christie dominating midfield, the hosts doubled their lead.

Antoine Semenyo burst down the right and hit the ball back to Cook, whose placed shot was deflected by his own teammate Dango Ouattara to completely deceive Ramsdale as it deflected into the bottom right corner.

With Russell Martin’s Southampton side struggling to retain possession and causing their own problems in defense at times, the hosts deservedly added a third goal.

Ghanaian winger Semenyo tormented several onlooking defenders before firing a low shot into the left corner from the edge of the penalty area.

While the game was effectively over as a fight at half-time, Southampton improved in the second half after introducing Ross Stewart, Ben Brereton Diaz and Joe Aribo.

But while Taylor Harwood-Bellis acknowledged Mateus Fernandes’ shot from the left, it proved little consolation for the visitors.
