ATP roundup: Carlos Alcaraz advances to semi-finals in Beijing

Third-seeded Carlos Alcaraz scored a 7-5, 6-2 victory over seventh-seeded Karen Khachanov of Russia to advance to the semifinals of the China Open on Monday in Beijing.

Alcaraz converted four of 12 break points to eliminate Khachanov in 96 minutes and move up a place to second in the rankings, overtaking Alexander Zverev. The Spaniard will face third seed Russian Daniil Medvedev, who had five aces en route to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Flavio Cobolli of Italy.

Also on Monday, fourth-seeded Andrey Rublev defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4, 7-5 in a match that continued due to a rain delay. However, Rublev couldn’t extend his luck and had to admit defeat to Chinese wildcard player Bu Yunchaokete.

Yanchaokete faces a big task in the next round in the form of top seed Jannik Sinner, who secured a 6-2, 7-6 (8) victory over Czech Jiri Hecka
