However, the Chiefs managed to survive, picking up a 17-10 win on the road to improve to 4-0. Samaje Perine scored the go-ahead touchdown with 6:04 left in the fourth quarter.

Kansas City star tight end Travis Kelce returned to his season-high seven catches for 89 yards to lead the team. With Sunday’s win, he became the franchise’s all-time leader in career receptions, passing Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez.

24. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues to do things we’ve never seen before, including the longest completion (in terms of yards traveled, according to Next Gen Stats) of his eight-year career in Sunday’s win.

25. According to @FrontOfficeNFL, Mahomes is now 13-12 in games where Kansas City trails by double digits, becoming the only quarterback in the Super Bowl era to hit over .500 under such circumstances.

With the Chiefs’ offense struggling for most of the game, Kansas City needed a big play from its defense and that’s exactly what it got. Not only was the Chargers’ vaunted rushing attack held to just 55 yards, but the Chiefs also held Justin Herbert to less than 180 yards through the air. Although the offense struggled for much of the game, the Chiefs got a surprising performance from Kareem Hunt, who averaged 4.9 yards per carry in his first appearance for Kansas City since 2018. Travis Kelce also showed that he still has a pulse with seven catches for 89 yards. If the Chiefs proved one thing on Sunday, it’s that they don’t always have to beat you in a shootout, but that they can win defensive slugfests like they just won in LA

Harbaugh: Chargers OL needs to give Herbert more time to make throws | ESPN

“We have to get Justin another half a second, we can really do that,” he said. “I mean, he tries to get the ball out as quickly as possible, and he does. And like I said, I don’t have an adjective for some of those throws he made. It is warlike; It’s everything that’s in his human power and more, that’s how I see it. It’s incredible what he can do. We have to give him more (time), just one more second.”

Herbert entered Sunday’s game with a right ankle sprain; He wore braces and had a heavy medical plaster on his right foot. Aside from the ankle injury, Herbert played behind a patchwork offensive line that was missing two of his best players at tackle, Rashawn Slater (pectoral muscle) and Joe Alt (MCL sprain).

NFL Week 4 Recap: Instant Fantasy Football Insights From Sunday’s Games | PFF

In the second quarter, Hunt completely took over Steele’s role as Steele didn’t play a single snap in the quarter. The Chiefs offense generally played better and Hunt looked solid with five yards per carry. The Chiefs had just one drive in the third quarter, with Hunt playing four snaps and Steele playing two. In the fourth quarter, the team largely stuck with Hunt, who ran eight times in the quarter, while Steele didn’t run at all.

That seems like good news for Hunt in general, but it’s impossible to know what the breakdown in the backfield would have looked like if Steele hadn’t lost a fumble early on. It’s certainly possible that Hunt starts next week, but it’s also possible that the short-term situation remains uncertain during early downturns. All we can rely on is Perine being the third defender.

Sunday Night Football: Derrick Henry runs for 199, Ravens beat Bills 35-10 | NBC Sports

Baltimore took a 21-3 lead in the first half. Although things got tougher in the third quarter as Buffalo mounted a comeback, that quickly changed as the Ravens fought back and outscored their opponents 14-0 the rest of the game.

Running back Derrick Henry led a prolific ground attack that got going on Baltimore’s first offensive snap. Henry took a handoff 87 yards for a touchdown, giving the Ravens a 7-0 lead on the longest run in franchise history.

Fred Warner ensures 49ers victory, but adds to extensive injury list | ESPN

With the Niners clinging to an early six-point lead, linebacker Fred Warner made a highlight-reel interception, rose and ran 45 yards for a touchdown. The Pick-6 nearly defeated the New England Patriots as the Niners rolled to a 30-13 victory that erased the bitter aftertaste of consecutive losses to the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams.

“He jumped about 10 feet in the air,” cornerback Deommodore Lenoir said. “That was crazy. …Fred Warner for DPOY.”

Warner’s game was the start the Niners needed to get back to 2-2 on the season with key NFC West division games against the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks over the next two weeks, but it didn’t come without it cost. There’s not much for a broken 49ers team to do these days.

Biggest Winners and Losers of NFL Week 4 2024 | The 33rd team

Loser: Nick Sirianni, Eagles

There is no doubt that the Philadelphia Eagles were shorthanded on offense today. They were without their top receivers (AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith) and their star right tackle (Lane Johnson). However, the Eagles were uncompetitive against the Buccaneers and this game was eerily similar to last year’s playoff result.

The Eagles allowed 33 points on defense as Mayfield threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns. Tampa Bay managed 445 yards of offense in the first half, including 24 points. At one point, the Buccaneers had outscored the Eagles in yardage 174-0. Nick Sirianni’s team looked completely flat and the offense was unable to make any significant plays in the passing game.

Philadelphia has now lost eight of its last 11 games under Sirianni, and this was the third straight week in which the offense has struggled to score. Jalen Hurts looks worse than ever and no one on the roster is playing with confidence. The Eagles have a bye in Week 5, and it’s much needed.

They look broken and their coach doesn’t seem to have any answers.

Chiefs injuries: What will the offense look like without Rashee Rice?

I’m relying on Kelce

Despite numerous headlines throughout the week about Travis Kelce, the 34-year-old tight end showed that he can still be the go-to guy on the Chiefs’ offense. Kelce finished the game with seven catches for 89 yards and came up big on several crucial downs for the Chiefs.

Kelce has been able to shoulder the load against a struggling Chargers secondary, and if the team wants to continue its success, he will need to continue to step up in those big moments. The slow start to the season appears to be over, but Kelce needs to continue playing at this level for the offense to continue to be successful.
