Sabrina Carpenter acknowledges connection to Eric Adams prosecution

Sabrina Carpenter already sparked controversy last year when her “Feather” video – a bloody romp filmed in a Catholic church in Brooklyn – led to the firing of Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, who let her film the clip on location. But theories are now circulating that the dispute over the video is connected to the indictment of New York Mayor Eric Adams and may have helped spark the investigation.

Carpenter herself acknowledged the speculation during her show at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night. “Damn, what now?” she said, looking out at the crowd. “Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted or…”

According to the New York Post, federal investigators last week subpoenaed the church in question over its relationships between Adams’ close associate Gigantiello and the mayor’s former chief of staff, Frank Carone. The subpoena was allegedly related to Carpenter’s “Feather” video, which has nearly 100 million views on YouTube, and the church’s related corruption. Church officials remained silent on the issue and offered a diplomatic response as to whether or not Carpenter’s clip played a role in the investigation.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further on this review, which is ongoing,” diocese officials said. “The diocese is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in any investigation, including conduct in individual parishes or the involvement of a priest.”

Carpenter addressed the controversy when it became the talk of the town last year when the video for “Feather” was released in late October. The Diocese of Brooklyn said it was “appalled” by the “violent and sexually provocative” video filmed at the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, prompting a renewed blessing from the establishment and a rebuke from Gigantiello.

After the news was in full swing, Carpenter spoke up diversity exclusively and said that she received permission to film the video in the church. She cheekily added, “Jesus was a carpenter,” a slogan she emblazoned on a T-shirt and wore to both weekend performances at Coachella in April.
