The Chicago Cubs’ final lineup of the year

CUBS LINEUP – And here we are, the final Chicago Cubs lineup of the year. Win today and the Cubs will win one more game than they did last year.

Chicago Cubs lineup:

  1. Ian Happ, LF
  2. Nico Hörner, 2B
  3. Seiya Suzuki, DH
  4. Michael Busch, 1B
  5. Isaac Paredes, 3B
  6. Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF
  7. Christian Bethancourt, C
  8. Kevin Alcantara, RF
  9. Luis Vazquez, SS

In the final game of the season, starters Dansby Swanson, Cody Bellinger and Miguel Amaya are on the bench in favor of Christian Bethancourt, Kevin Alcantara and Luis Vazquez – they occupy the seventh, eighth and ninth spots.

With these subs, Nico Hoerner advances to two-hole, while Pete Crow-Armstrong finishes in sixth place (I believe his highest shot all year). Happ is still left leading off, and Michael Busch is cleaning up at first base. Come on, boys. Might as well win.

Cincinnati Reds lineup:

  1. Jonathan India, 2B
  2. Elly De La Cruz, SS
  3. Tyler Stephenson, DH
  4. Spencer Steer, LF
  5. TJ Friedl, CF
  6. Ty France, 1B
  7. Jake Fraley, RF
  8. Noelvi Marte, 3B
  9. Luke Maile, C

Pitching matchup:

Chicago Cubs: Caleb Kilian, RHP

Caleb Kilian was called up for his final start of the year and his first in the MLB this season. Kilian hasn’t had any real success in the big leagues yet, but there’s obviously talent in this arm. We’ll see if he can’t give the Cubs front office something to think about in the offseason.

Cincinnati Reds: Hunter Greene, RHP

Hunter Greene finally broke through this season, matching his results (2.83 ERA, 3.7 WAR over 25 starts) with the impressive (6’5″, 250 pounds) frame (98 MPH fastball) and underlying stats of ~30,000% as well as solid contact management this season). Historically, righties have hit Greene much better than lefties, but he fixed that this season.
