Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson out vs. Steelers, says hip ‘still sore’

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson left Sunday’s game twice on the same drive. And he didn’t return for the game, which the Colts ultimately won 27-24 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Richardson, who left early in three of his four games for the Colts last season, was forced out Sunday with another injury. He briefly left the game during a drive after being hit at the end of a run when he went to the ground and grabbed him by the waist, and was replaced by Joe Flacco. Later in the drive, Richardson was back and tried to run left. His leg seemed to give way and he slid down awkwardly.

Richardson limped a little and then came out again. He went straight back to the locker room with the athletic training team and was later ruled out of action for Sunday.

Flacco came back and threw a touchdown straight to Josh Downs. He finished 16 of 26 for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

The Colts said Richardson has a hip injury.

After the game, Richardson told reporters that his hip was “still sore” and that he told head coach Shane Steichen that he “tried to accelerate and couldn’t push off like I wanted to.” ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe reported After the game, Richardson said he has a hip pointer, and the hope in Indianapolis is that he misses “very little or no game action.” He will undergo further examination this week.

Regardless, the injury isn’t good news for the Colts, whose focus all season has been keeping Richardson healthy. Richardson had struggled through three games but had at least stayed healthy. That changed on Sunday, bringing back bad memories of his injuries last season and all the talk about his offseason durability.
