ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — According to the National Weather Service, Rockingham County was hit during Friday’s severe weather caused by Helene.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia, said Sunday that an EF-1 tornado formed five miles east of Stoneville, near Heffinger Road, around 3:25 p.m

The tornado cut a 50-meter-wide path for about half a mile. It ended about 4.8 miles east of Stoneville at 3:27 p.m. Peak winds were estimated at 90 to 95 mph.

No one was reported, but the tornado damaged four metal structures and tore off the roof. It also knocked down some hardwood trees and ripped the solar array off a home.

“NWS Blacksburg would like to express its sincere thanks to Rockingham County Emergency Management Service for their assistance with this damage investigation,” NWS Blacksburg said in a statement.

A FOX8 viewer in Stoneville shared with us a video of a tornado forming on Friday, captured in the area where the EF-1 tornado struck.
