Caitlin Clark revealed the secret behind the signature 3-point shot

Caitlin Clark proved in her rookie season that she can impact the game in a variety of ways.

The Indiana Fever star, who entered the league as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, set the WNBA single-season assist record in her first year.

But it was her signature deep three that initially made Clark a big draw for casual fans.

Caitlin also brought this to the pros, explaining how successful she was with the shot in an interview with 60 Minutes’ Jon Wertheim.

Wertheim asked Clark what goes into her decision-making when she attempts those crowd-pleasing logo 3-point attempts. The Fever Warden responded by revealing where her thought process begins.

“I feel like I’m always looking at the rim at the beginning.”

Clark explains that this is because she first tries to reward her big ones as they run across the floor. But if no defender picks them up, firing a shot is the next step.

Caitlin then went into the mechanics of the shot, citing balance as the most important aspect. Before adding that the use of her legs is also crucial for long-range shots, she points to her background as a soccer player, which helped there.

Wertheim then asked about the differences between the logo three-pointers and regular shots from beyond the arc, to which Clark said of her signature shot, “I like it better.”

She emphasized that this is because she prefers to shoot off the dribble and that the defensive attention she receives makes it easier for her to create her own situations than in catch-and-shoot situations.

Her preference is backed up by the numbers, as Clark shoots from 30-34 feet almost as well as he does on routine 3-pointers.

It’ll be a while before fans see Clark drop bombs on the court again, but anticipation is already well underway for the next release from their fingertips.
