5 films like “Wolfs”, but better

Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s two-hander Wolfs is now available to stream on Apple TV Plus after diverging from a wide theatrical release.

Initially, it was one of the (many) films I was looking forward to over the last few months of the year, but after streaming it ahead of its debut on Friday, September 27th, I have to admit… I’m a little disappointed .

I was expecting a pretty funny caper, but as I rolled the credits for “Wolfs,” I found Marvel alum Jon Watts’ latest work to be pretty perfunctory. It’s a passable streaming watch, but it only gave me a few laughs.

For the most part, it’s an uneven film that capitalizes on the obvious charisma of its two leads as their night spirals increasingly out of control. If you’re in the mood for a mediocre piece of Apple TV Plus content, it’ll probably fill an evening; I don’t think there’s much else to “Wolfs” other than its funny exchanges and occasional action sequences. But I might be in the minority; The critic score on Rotten Tomatoes currently sits at 73%, so there’s a good chance you’ll like it.

That being said, in case you feel similarly disappointed after watching the film, I’ve put together a list of five movies like Wolfs that should satisfy your buddy comedy or action cravings and stream them at the time of release can.

If you prefer action comedies with a little more, well, action, then 2024’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die might be just the action comedy you need to stream ASAP. Even though the latest installment in the High Octane series, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, didn’t get a stellar response from critics, it still delivered good results very good with the audience; It’s still the 10th biggest movie of the year, despite monster competition from films like Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2.

In the Boys’ fourth appearance, our two Miami detectives set out to clear the name of the late Captain Howard, who is linked to drug cartels. If you want a hectic, action-packed watch for your next movie night, check this out.

Maybe not “Game Night.” appear like an obvious choice compared to “Wolfs,” but allow me to explain. While the former is more of an ensemble action comedy, both are essentially crime capers that pack a punch Away and both rely primarily on the back-and-forth and charisma of their respective actors to drive the story forward. The difference? “Game Night” is much funnier and has one much wilder setup.

In “Game Night,” Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie’s (Rachel McAdams) weekly game night is taken to the next level. To show off his brother Max, Brooks (Kyle Chandler) arranges a fancy evening with fake kidnappers who kidnap him.

As the whole gang tries to solve the case, it quickly becomes clear that their evening has taken a darker turn and they continue to face new twists and trials as they try to put things right. Bateman and McAdams are the real winning combination here, but the whole thing is silly, crazy fun that will keep you laughing until the end credits.

If the main reason you wanted to stream “Wolfs” was to see Brad Pitt and George Clooney duke it out, then you can’t go wrong with Steven Soderbergh’s supremely stylish remake of a 2001 Rat Pack classic. After all, it was on our list of the best Brad Pitt and George Clooney collaborations for a reason: it’s a fantastic watch.

In the film, Danny Ocean (Clooney) recruits his best friend Rusty (Pitt) and puts together a crack team for a very special mission. Danny plans to rob three casinos in Las Vegas and get away with $150 million. Why? Well, the casino boss Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) is dating Danny’s ex-wife (Julia Roberts). It’s slick, polite fun and still ranks as one of the pair’s strongest performances (and if you like it, there are two other sequels available to stream, too).

“The Nice Boys” (2016)

Shane Black’s The Nice Guys might be my favorite action comedy ever. A throwback to classic buddy comedies, this 1970s film stars Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling as hapless private detective Holland Marsh (Gosling) and strong-armed enforcer Jackson Healy (Crowe). And it’s a comedic combination made in heaven.

After their paths cross when an adult film star supposedly dies by suicide, Marsh and Healy become embroiled in a spiraling case that leads them to Amelia (Margaret Qualley). When Amelia disappears, it becomes clear that the heroes have been drawn into a case much bigger than they expected.

Thanks to a light, brisk script, there’s a lot to laugh about (much more than “The Wolves”), but still contains some solid action scenes. It’s an absolute blast and you should check it out if you haven’t already.

OK, yes, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” is one much dumber movie, but it’s one hell of a messy ride and should satisfy anyone looking for a louder adventure than “Wolfs.”

In “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” we meet struggling actor Nicolas Cage (playing himself). Cage isn’t having much luck professionally either and his family life isn’t going much better either.

But out of the blue, he receives a killer offer from his agent just as he’s about to retire: He’ll take on an appearance as guest of honor at billionaire playboy (and Nick Cage superfan) Javi Gutiérrez (Pedro Pascal)’s birthday party in Mallorca. The couple quickly develops a strong bond…but they soon find themselves embroiled in conflict World The pain is great when Javi’s criminal background catches up with him.
