National Park Service seeks public comments on proposed fee increases at Cumberland Gap

The National Park Service is accepting public comments on a proposed fee increase at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.

The changes would affect fees for guided tours, rentals of picnic shelters and certain campsites in the park.

The NPS says the fee increase puts it in favor of the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, which requires fees comparable to other parks in the region.

Fees at Cumberland Gap have remained much more affordable compared to other parks in the area. In particular, fees for guided tours and shelter rentals have not changed in over 15 years.

The public comment period runs until September 4. The park service says the changes could go into effect as early as October.

The park plans to implement the new tariffs over the next three years. Specific information on the proposed increases can be found here.
