Eagles DT leaves game against Buccaneers

play

TAMPA – The Eagles continued to lose key players as cornerback Darius Slay left the game early in the third quarter with an unspecified injury.

He was followed by defensive tackle Jalen Carter and center Cam Jurgens, both of whom left with cramps — Carter late in the third quarter, Jurgens early in the fourth.

The Eagles had to regroup their offensive line as left guard Landon Dickerson moved to center and Tyler Steen stepped in at left guard. Dickerson was originally drafted as a center in the second round in 2021, but never played there with the Eagles. He filled in at left guard for the injured Isaac Seumalo in 2021 and has remained there ever since, making the Pro Bowl the last two seasons.

Both Carter and Jurgens returned later in the fourth quarter. But wide receiver Johnny Wilson left with a concussion. The Eagles were left with only Jahan Dotson and two practice squad players, veterans Parris Campbell and John Ross.

This came after safety Reed Blankenship left late in the first half due to illness. He was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Those are two starting defenders. Isaiah Rodgers replaced Slay while Tristin McCollum replaced Blankenship. But Slay returned later in the third quarter and the Eagles trailed 30-16.

Then Carter left late in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury. At the end of the quarter he was taken to the locker room.

Additionally, right tackle Fred Johnson went to the medical tent after the Eagles used a tush push to set up Jalen Hurts’ 1-yard TD. But Johnson returned for the next series.

Johnson replaced Lane Johnson, who suffered a concussion last week against the Saints. The Eagles were also without top wide receivers AJ Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion).
