Israel attacks Hodeidah in Yemen – The Jerusalem Post

Sources reported that the IDF attacked the Houthis in Yemen on Sunday in the strongest counterattack of the war against them, even surpassing the massive attack on Hodeida in July The Jerusalem Post and the IDF confirmed shortly afterwards.

Dozens of Israeli aircraft took part in the operation, striking 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) from Israeli territory after the Houthis fired three ballistic missiles at the Tel Aviv and central Israel areas in recent weeks, including one on Saturday.

The targets included power plants and an oil import seaport, which the Houthis used to transport Iranian weapons to the region in addition to military supplies and oil, the IDF reported.

According to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen news agency and confirmed by the IDF, the targets of the attacks were oil reserves in Ras Issa and also the port of Hodeidah.

“Israeli aggression is targeting the city of Hodeidah,” wrote Al Masirah, a Houthi Lebanese media outlet.

The Houthi-led Al Masirah announced that civil defense had begun extinguishing the fire at the current power plant caused by the strikes.

In a statement posted on the Al Masira Twitter account, “What the Yemeni people reiterate in their millions of weekly demonstrations is that they will not abandon Gaza and Lebanon.”

Israeli Air Force commanding officer Tomer Bar said in a statement: “Anyone who tries to harm the civilian population of the State of Israel – we will reach out to them.”

The company warned against triggering a new oil crisis in the capital Sanaa and the rest of the provinces, saying it had previously taken the necessary precautions for any emergency.

Both the Hodeidah power station and airport were attacked

In addition, Al Mayadeen reported that both the Hodeidah power plant and airport were targeted by IDF attacks.

The IDF said its intelligence chose the targets based on where Iran supplied weapons to the Houthis, mixing civilian sites with military use and then attacking Israel.

The IDF added that the Houthis attacked Israel last year, not just last month.

During the year, the Houthis fired numerous ballistic missiles and drones at Eilat. In July, a Houthi drone killed a civilian in Tel Aviv.

Saturday’s rocket attack triggered sirens across central Israel, including Tel Aviv, and although shrapnel was recovered on Route 375 near Tzur Hadassah, no injuries were reported.
