Packers CB Jaire Alexander misses final practice before face-off with Justin Jefferson

According to Mike Spofford of the team’s official website, Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander was unavailable for practice on Friday, the final practice before Sunday’s game against Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings.

Alexander is dealing with a quadriceps injury. It was limited on Wednesday and Thursday.

Alexander, cornerback Carrington Valentine and offensive lineman Jordan Morgan did not practice Friday, although quarterback Jordan Love participated in practice for the third straight day.

The Packers will provide game status information in the final injury report later Friday. Alexander is probably listed.

His potential matchup against Jefferson, who has a touchdown catch in all three games to start the season, would be one of the defining showdowns of Sunday’s NFC North battle at Lambeau Field. Entering Week 4, Jefferson has 14 catches on 21 targets for 273 yards and three scores. The fifth-year receiver is a three-time All-Pro and four-time 1,000-yard receiver.

Alexander, a two-time All-Pro, has two interceptions in 2024, including his first career pick-six. Last season he missed ten games due to injury.

If Alexander is available on Sunday, he could accompany Jefferson as he did against AJ Brown for most of Week 1. When Alexander isn’t shadowing, he plays most of his snaps at left cornerback.

Alexander and Jefferson did not compete against each other last season.

Jefferson missed the Vikings’ Week 8 win over the Packers at Lambeau Field with a hamstring injury, then caught five passes on 10 targets for 59 yards in Green Bay’s 33-10 win at US Bank Stadium. Alexander was suspended for week 17.

In addition to Jefferson, the Vikings could bring back first-round pick Jordan Addison from an ankle injury on Sunday.

Valentine, a key backup cornerback, is trying to recover from an ankle injury that kept him out of the game last week. Corey Ballentine would be a likely starter opposite Eric Stokes if Alexander and Valentine can’t go.
