Season 50 of Saturday Night Live celebrates Charli XCX’s summer brat trend with Bowen Yang as host of the talk show Brat or Nat.

Saturday Night Live’s 50th season kicked off with a special nod to brat mom Charli XCX in a hilarious skit dedicated to this summer’s biggest trend. Bowen Yang portrayed the Apple singer in a fictional talk show called “The Talk Talk Show” – inspired by one of her songs. The talk show sketch also featured Sarah Sherman, Jean Smart, Chloe Fineman and Ego Nwodim.

In the skit, Yang brought Sarah Sherman as Troye Sivan, who is traveling with Charli for her Sweat Tour. Sherman comically pulled up her shirt to show off her fake abs and giggled. There was even a game where they made fun of current events by calling them either “Brat” or “Nat.”

After making sure the audience understood the meaning of “Brat,” Yang played a fun game called “Brat or Nat,” where he judged the latest events and assigned them to each nickname. The game referenced all election events and things in pop culture and referred to them as either a brat or a nat. Examples include: Hunter Biden’s laptop (Brat) or Mark Robinson’s search history (Nat).

Barron Trump’s decision to enroll at NYU was also called a “brat,” which was at odds with the school itself, which was rated “nat.” The skit also rated Amy Adams’ character in Nightbitch as a “brat” and accused New York City Mayor Eric Adams as a “Nat.”

Yang then welcomed SNL host Jean Smart, who played “queer nightlife icon Susanne Bartsch,” and Chloe Fineman, who played “straight CNN icon Kaitlan Collins,” to his fictional talk talk show dealing with the topic the upcoming elections. Ego Nwodim, who appeared as Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, was able to forgo politeness and express her views on Matt Gaetz and JD Vance.

The skit was inspired by Charli XCX’s latest album Brat, which took both the summer and the charts by storm. Released on June 7th, it’s full of hyperpop summer beats. Charli also made headlines when she tweeted “Kamala is a brat,” flaunting her political influence.

Her other notable moments include performances at Madison Square Garden with Troye Sivan, where Lorde and Addison Rae were among her special guests just before the Season 50 premiere of Saturday Night Live.
