Game updates, live scores in college football

The Texas Tech football team held on to a narrow 44-41 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday, moving them to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in Big 12 play.

Cincinnati stayed close until the end and had a drive to score the game-winning field goal. Nathan Hawks’ 51-yard attempt missed, giving the Red Raiders the victory.

Tahj Brooks ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries to lead Texas Tech. Behren Morton had 251 yards and two touchdowns through the air, both going to Coy Eakin (78 yards), while Josh Kelly caught eight passes for 111 yards.

Brendan Sorsby had 426 passing yards and 52 rushing yards, for a total of four touchdowns.

10:32 p.m.: Texas Tech’s first punt of the day comes in the final two minutes. Cincinnati has 1:53 left to score at least a field goal to tie the game and will start the drive at its own 10.

10:28 p.m.: Texas Tech gets a big run from Tahj Brooks, but the drive stalls at midfield. The Red Raiders face the Cincinnati 47 on 4th-and-12 after the two-minute timeout.

10:24 p.m.: Caleb Douglas clears Cincinnati’s on-side bouncer attempt. Tech ball at the 30 with 3:23 minutes left.

10:22 p.m.: The Bearcats take the field and cut the deficit to 44-41 with 3:24 remaining in regulation.

10:12 p.m.: Texas Tech reaches the Cincinnati 5 but can’t beat them. Gino Garcia hits a 27-yard field goal to extend the lead to 44-34 with 7:50 left.

10:00 p.m.: Manny Covey throws a 71-yard short pass for a TD. Cincinnati cut Texas Tech’s lead to 41-34 with 12:05 left in the fourth.

9:52 p.m.: Brendan Sorsby is under pressure and overthrows his target. AJ McCarty intercepts the pass and takes it 51 yards for the pick-6. Texas Tech leads Cincinnati 41-27 with 12:40 left.

9:49 p.m.: Bearcats convert on 4th down. The journey continues.

9:44 p.m.: Late in the 3rd, Texas Tech leads 34-27. Cincinnati made the decision to score on fourth-and-2 from their own 33.

9:39 p.m.: Texas Tech gets into the red zone, but a holding penalty leaves Tech settling for a 38-yard FG from Reese Burkhardt. Tech leads 34-27 with 53 seconds remaining in third.

9:23 p.m.: Texas Tech defense holds. Cincinnati settles for a 26-yard field goal to cut the lead to 31-27 with 6:39 left in the third.

9:12 p.m.: Tahj Brooks ends the drive with his second touchdown of the day, this time from 2 yards out. Texas Tech leads 31-24 with 12:27 left in the third.

9:09 p.m.: Brenden Jordan forces a fumble and Jacob Rodriguez recovers it. Technology ball at Cincy 38.

9:07 p.m.: The second half has begun. Cincinnati starts at its own 25.

8:45 p.m.: Nathan Hawks misses a 42-yard field goal as time expires. At halftime, Texas Tech and Cincinnati are tied 24-24. The Bearcats receive the kick to start the second half.

8:34 p.m.: Tahj Brooks ended the drive with a 1-yard TD run of his own. Texas Tech tied the game 24-24 with 1:39 left in the half.

8:27 p.m.: Texas Tech faces 2nd-and-8 from the Cincinnati 16 after the two-minute timeout.

8:17 p.m.: Evan Pryor ends the Cincinnati drive with a 1-yard TD run. The Bearcats are back in front, 24-17, with 3:47 left.

8:05 p.m.: Coy Eakin takes a short drag route, slides the defender and runs for a 49-yard TD. Texas Tech and Cincinnati tied 17-17 with 10:32 left in the second.

7:59 p.m.: Despite a pass interference penalty, the Tech defense holds Cincinnati to a field goal. Nathan Hawks scores from 37 yards out to extend the Bearcat lead to 17-10 with 13:27 left in the second.

7:52 p.m.: End of 1st: Cincinnati 14, Texas Tech 10. Bearcats have 2nd and 10 at Tech 31.

7:51 p.m.: Josh Kelly botches the punt return and Cincinnati recovers at the Tech 31.

7:50 p.m.: The Red Raider defense gets its first stop of the game, forcing the Bearcats to make it 3-0.

7:43 p.m.: Red Raiders answer, Behren Morton hits Coy Eakin for a 7-yard TD. Texas Tech trails Cincinnati 14-10 with 1:25 left in first place.

7:37 p.m.: The Bearcats only need one play to find the end zone again. Brendan Sorsby hits Xzavier Henderson on a short slant for a 42-yard touchdown. Cincinnati 14, Texas Tech 3, 4:59 left in first.

7:33 p.m.: Texas Tech goes on a 4th-and-1 from their own 44, goes for a direct snap to Tahj Brooks and Cincinnati shoots for a loss of two. Turnover on downs, Bearcats possession with 5:07 left on first down.

7:25 p.m.: Cincinnati responds quickly with a 15-yard TD pass from Brendan Sorsby to Tony Johnson. The Bearcats lead 7-3 with 7:35 left.

7:21 p.m.: Cincinnati uses 4th-and-1 inside the red zone to keep the drive alive. Tech must burn its second timeout of the half with 7:42 left in the first quarter.

7:15 p.m.: Texas Tech’s drive stalls near the 35, but Gino Garcia scores a 45-yard field goal. Texas Tech leads Cincinnati 3-0 with 11:33 left.

7:07 p.m.: There is some confusion over alignment and Texas Tech has to call its first timeout of the game with 13:59 left in the first quarter.

7:06 p.m.: Drae McCray nearly manages to lose a possession, returning the kick 35 yards to put the Red Raiders in good field position.

7:04 p.m.: Cincinnati wins the toss and moves. Texas Tech receives the opening kickoff.

6:28 p.m.: Texas Tech will be without cornerbacks Bralyn Lux and Jalon Peoples in today’s game. Maurion Horn and Macho Stevenson will take on the starting roles. Look for Devynn Cromwell to get some more playing time today.
