Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer talks Ryan Williams, Jalen Milroe and injuries heading to Georgia

Alabama football combined a dominant first half with a shaky second half in which it did just enough to win, ultimately defeating Georgia 41-34 at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday.

Freshman receiver Ryan Williams scored a late touchdown, and then freshman cornerback Zabien Brown snagged an interception to secure the victory over the No. 1/2 Bulldogs.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer spoke to reporters after the game. Here are some of the things he said.

Kalen DeBoer postgame press conference

  • DeBoer on intercepting Zabien Brown: “Just in a great position. It definitely looked different depending on how he played it.”
  • DeBoer on the two freshmen who got in late: “It was fun celebrating those guys in the locker room.”
  • DeBoer: We expect to win games. These games. Of course the locker room is full of excitement. I also want to make sure we understand that this is the expectation.
  • DeBoer on Ryan Williams and Zabien Brown: “They definitely earned the stripe in the middle of their helmets tonight.”
  • DeBoer on the emotional rollercoaster: “When you play a really good football team, you know there’s going to be a strong push.”
  • DeBoer on Kendrick Law said he has a lower body injury. He said it was unfortunate that he couldn’t finish the game because of the hard work he put in.
  • DeBoer: “Guys that are ready when their opportunity comes. We talked about that a lot in fall camp.”
  • DeBoer said on Jalen Milroe that one of the areas he has improved is throw position. “If we continue like this, we will be difficult to defend.”
  • DeBoer said Ryan Williams’ post-catch skills impressed him.
  • DeBoer said he is proud of his players for maintaining confidence and not doing it in an arrogant manner.
