    Matchweek 8 of La Liga, also known as the Spanish Football League, begins today (September 28) as heavyweights such as Barcelona and Real Madrid look to take top spot at the start of the season. Seven games have been played in the league so far, with Hansi Flick’s newly formed FC Barcelona leading the way with an impressive seven wins out of seven.

    Defending champions Real Madrid haven’t had the best start this season despite the arrival of Kylian Mbappe, but are still second in the league with 5 wins and 2 draws in 7 games. The loss of 4 points could be decisive for the rest of the league.

    The two Spanish clubs are followed by Atletico Madrid (15 points), Mallorca (14 points), Villarreal (14 points) and Athletic Club (13 points), who currently round out the top six.

    The race for La Liga’s Golden Boot is currently tight, with Robert Lewandowski leading the race with 7 goals in as many games for Barcelona.

    Villarreal’s Ayoze Perez is close behind with 6 goals, while Kylian Mbappe and Barca’s Raphinha share third place with 5 goals each. Giovani Lo Celso has scored 4 goals for Real Betis so far.

    Tough fight between Madrid and Barca this year –

    The fight for the title between arch-rivals Madrid and Barca is set to be intense as Barcelona have rejuvenated since the arrival of new coach Hansi Flick. Barcelona travel to Osasuna on Saturday where they will hope to continue their winning streak this year. Madrid, on the other hand, face a tough derby against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday, where Atletico could overtake them by 18 points if they win on the night. However, a victory for Madrid would create a gap of 4 points between them and their local rivals.

    In the bottom half of the table, Valladolid (5 points), Getafe (4 points) and Las Palmas (3 points) are currently struggling with their season.
