Kentucky fans aren’t happy with Ole Miss’s “fake” injury play

Ole Miss was caught on camera faking an injury and Kentucky fans are frustrated with the lack of spirit. The referees didn’t see it during the game, but the announcers and the ABC booth saw it.

While Ole Miss was trying to keep a drive alive in the second quarter, Jaxson Dart meant running back Matt Jones fell down and got “hurt.” It was an embarrassing moment for Ole Miss and something that, while not illegal, is frowned upon and could get a slap in the face from the SEC. Check out the piece for yourself:

You can hear announcer Sean McDonough being dismayed by the play and asking the rules analyst if there is a penalty for something like that. Stewart Mandel also tweeted to thank the announcers for bringing this up more often.

Kentucky fans took to Twitter to voice their displeasure as well.

It was at a moment when it didn’t seem to matter much for Ole Miss, especially with such a fast-paced offense. What bothers me about this is when they are willing to fake an injury in a moment where it doesn’t matter how many times they actually do it. How often do they do it when it could change the dynamic or nature of the game? It will be interesting to see what Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops says after the game. Or better yet, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.

The Kentucky Wildcats are currently playing on the road at Ole Miss’ Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi. It’s the fourth time Mark Stoops has taken on the Rebels; he has not yet managed to defeat them. This game looks to be close as the Kentucky defense found a way to slow down the Ole Miss offense, limiting them to seven points in the first half.
