Who will Nick Saban pick for Alabama-Georgia on college game day? Rece Davis shares the process

Nick Saban faces a difficult decision on Saturday. The former Alabama football coach, now an analyst on ESPN’s College Gameday, can pick the Crimson Tide, which he coached for 17 seasons, to win, or he can pick Georgia, which was the favorite to start the week .

Speaking to reporters in Tuscaloosa on Friday, College Gameday host Rece Davis said that Saban was faced with a no-win situation at the desk before the main game. He said he wasn’t sure who the former coach would choose.

“I never ask that because he should just pick who he thinks will win,” Davis said. “I know this sounds cliche and trite, but I really think this is important for all of our analysts. If he only cared about the crowd reaction, he would choose Alabama. If he’s going for the big picture: “I’m going to call it as I see it,” even if he doesn’t believe that, picking Georgia would be the way to go. So you can’t win either way, so just say what you think.”

Saban resigned as Alabama’s head coach in January of this year. Gameday returns to Tuscaloosa on Saturday, the first time he has appeared on Denny Chimes since Saban joined the show.

He is joined on set by his wife Terry, who serves as this week’s guest selection. College Game Day begins Saturday at 8 a.m. CT on ESPN and lasts three hours, with the pick panel segment occurring near the end of the show.

Alabama and Georgia are scheduled to kick off at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ABC.

Davis said Friday he didn’t expect Saban would have much difficulty expressing his opinion about his predicted outcome.

“I’m confident he can do it,” Davis said. “He’s never hesitated to do that in his entire life, the entire time I’ve known him, so I imagine he’ll just say who he thinks will win and let the chips fall where they want.”
