Chelsea v Brighton & Hove Albion: Premier League – BBC Sport

  • After a run of five Premier League games without a win against Brighton (D3 L2), Chelsea managed the double against the Seagulls last season.

  • Brighton have lost just one of their last four Premier League away games against Chelsea (W1 D2), despite losing 3-2 in that very game last season.

  • Chelsea won both Premier League games with Brighton last season despite having a player sent off in each game. It is one of only two cases where a team has won consecutive meetings with an opponent despite being down to 10 men (also Middlesbrough v Sunderland in 2002), while the Blues have won three consecutive meetings with an opponent no player was ever sent off.

  • Chelsea have won eight of their last ten Premier League games (D1 L1). In fact, since the start of May (when this run began), no team has won more Premier League points than the Blues (25).

  • Chelsea have won all three away games in the Premier League this season but remain winless at Stamford Bridge (D1 L1). Only in 2001-2002 and 2019-20 did they fail to achieve one of their first three home wins in the competition.

  • Brighton are one of four sides unbeaten in the Premier League this season heading into this weekend’s games, although their last three games have all ended in a draw (W2). They have never gone unbeaten in their first six games since the start of a top flight season.

  • Only Manchester City (13) have scored more goals in the Premier League so far this season than Chelsea (11). The Blues are currently outperforming their xG more than any other team this season (11 goals, 8 xG), while their shot conversion rate of 18.6% is the highest ever recorded in a single season (since 1997-98).

  • Brighton have drawn each of their last three Premier League games – their seventh of three consecutive draws in the competition, while the Seagulls last drew four league games in a row in October 2014.

  • Nicolas Jackson has been involved in 13 goals in his last 13 Premier League games for Chelsea (9 goals, 4 assists), one more than in his first 27 appearances (9 goals, 3 assists).

  • Brighton’s Danny Welbeck – who has already scored three goals and an assist in the Premier League this season – has scored three goals in his last four league games against Chelsea, with all three of those goals coming as a substitute.
