Upstate Greenville businesses announce closures

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on Wednesday to prepare for Hurricane Helene.

Many businesses, libraries and government offices are closing and festivals and events in the Upstate have been postponed. Local authorities are advising residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel until the storm passes.

Here is a list of closures and postponed events in the Upstate.

Greenville County

– The City of Greenville Sanitation Department said Friday’s schedule will continue as normal. However, residents are advised to stay informed of any changes due to Hurricane Helene.

–All Greenville County libraries will close at 6 p.m. Thursday and will remain closed Friday, September 27, due to expected severe weather from Hurricane Helene.

– The Greenville Zoo is closed on Thursdays and Fridays. The animals are safe, dry and indoors.

– Greenville Community Center after-school programs, youth soccer and pickleball leagues, and all Prisma Health Welcome Center events in Unity Park are canceled.

–Champion Comfort Expert Moonlight Movies in Falls Park is canceled for Thursday evenings.

–Due to the forecast of hazardous weather and road conditions, Meals on Wheels of Greenville will not be delivering meals on Friday, September 27th. According to the staff at Meals on Wheels of Greenville, frozen meals were delivered on Wednesday and they will be taking care of our customers throughout the weekend. – Due to expected severe weather, all Pickens County offices, including the landfill, will be open at 12 p.m. on Friday, September 27th. Recycling centers will remain closed all day on Friday and will resume normal hours on Saturday. The delay ensures the safety of staff and the public and helps prevent travel in potentially dangerous conditions.

–Greenlink will operate with a two-hour delay. The service begins at 7:30 a.m. to allow drivers daylight for better visibility and accident prevention.

– The town hall will open on Friday, September 27th at 12 p.m.

– According to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina business offices will be closed Friday, 9/27/24 due to forecasted severe weather. Our 9-1-1 emergency center will operate normally and deputies will be on duty to respond to calls for service. Our offices will be open again on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 8:30 a.m

City of Pickens

– According to the City of Pickens, City Hall will be closed for all but essential operations and disaster relief on Friday, September 27th. Call 864-777-9500 to report downed trees, blocked roads or flooding. Call 911 for medical or other emergencies.

– According to the City of Pickens, all Pickens Parks & Recreation events (games and practices) and Open Gym are canceled for Thursday the 26th and Friday the 27th. Away games will be determined by the organizing agency and coaches will be notified.

– According to the City of Pickens, we will work with other departments to reschedule as many games as possible.

– The Pickens County Library System has announced that the Craft Swap at the Hampton Memorial Library has been postponed due to the weather forecast for tomorrow, Friday, September 27th. Please stay tuned for a new date.

– According to United Christian Ministries. Due to possible flooding and strong winds, we will remain closed tomorrow (Friday) to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers. We will reopen for groceries, clothing, rent and utilities at 9:00 a.m. Monday.

–According to United Christian Ministries, if you need emergency food assistance over the weekend, the Storehouse at 5 Point Church will be open from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday

– According to Tim’s Towing. Due to the strong winds and expected road flooding Thursday evening and throughout Friday, we will not be allowing our trucks to operate on the roads, putting our drivers at risk. Out of an abundance of caution, we will close at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and all day on Friday. We will reopen on Monday.

Spartanburg County

– Despite the storm, Spartanburg County officials have announced that trash pickup will take place as scheduled on Friday, Sept. 27.

–Love Me Some Lace at 155 E Broad St. in Spartanburg will be closed Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27, due to the impending storm.

–All Spartanburg County Library locations will be closed at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, due to weather conditions.

–All Little River Coffee locations will open at a later date at 9 a.m

–Sugah Cakes (551 E. Main St) is closed on Fridays.

City of Mauldin

According to City of Mauldin Communications Manager Lauren Carter, in light of the severe weather in the Upstate area and the safety concerns for city employees and the public, the following changes will be made to the city’s operations.

  • Garbage collection for Friday, September 27th has been canceled. Makeup Day is Monday September 30th.
  • – All Mauldin Recreation sports programs are canceled for the afternoon/evening of Thursday, September 26th.
  • – Mauldin Sports Center closes Thursday, September 26th at 8:00 p.m.
  • – City offices, including City Hall, Mauldin Sports Center, Ray W. Hopkins Mauldin Senior Center and Mauldin Cultural Center, will open at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27.
  • – The Mighty Kicks performance at the Mauldin Cultural Center on Friday evening is still scheduled to take place. All updates will be posted on the Mauldin Cultural Center Facebook page.

City of Anderson

– According to the City of Anderson, Anderson sanitation services will be delayed by two hours on Friday, September 28th due to weather advisories. Please plan accordingly.

– According to Anderson County. Government offices will remain closed on Friday, September 27, 2024 due to predicted inclement weather from Hurricane Helene. Employees will work remotely; However, emergency responders and the county’s public works department will be on duty during the closure.

– Anderson County Convenience Centers and MRF will be closed Friday, September 27, 2024. However, they will be open during regular business hours this Saturday. For emergency calls, trees blocking roads, etc., please report on the ACSCGov app or at https://seeclickfix.com/report.

–According to Denver Downs owner Catherine Garrison Davis: “Due to power outages and damage to Helene, we will be closed Saturday and Sunday, September 28th and 29th. The farm will open at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4th. “Excursions will continue to take place on weekdays.”

– Due to inclement weather caused by Hurricane Helene, Anderson County Meals on Wheels has announced it will temporarily suspend service on Friday, September 27th.

– The Jo Brown Senior Citizen Center in Anderson will be closed Friday, Sept. 27, due to expected severe weather from Hurricane Helene.

–Seniors who normally rely on the Center’s services are encouraged to make alternative arrangements. For more information, please contact the center directly at 864-231-2237.

– According to the city of Anderson. City Hall and the Municipal Business Center offices will be closed on Friday, September 27th. The city will staff an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and emergency responders will be responsible for operations during the storm.

– According to Anderson County Library. Due to expected severe weather, all Anderson County Library locations will be closed Friday, September 27th. Unless otherwise noted, all library locations will reopen for normal hours on Saturday, September 28th.

–Due to adverse weather conditions, we have postponed the unveiling of our new StoryWalk in Belton on the Bubblegum Rail Trail. For more information about hurricane preparedness, visit https://www.noaa.gov/hurricane-prep.

–According to City Seed at the train station. We will be closed tomorrow, Friday, September 27th, as Helene wreaks havoc across the southeastern United States. We hope to be open again on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

–According to Peoples Bank, due to inclement weather, our locations will open at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27th.

– According to the Anderson County Museum, due to the weather forecast for Friday, September 27th, Homeschool Friday has been canceled to ensure the safety of all of our students and families.

–According to Wilhelmina’s Kitchen, we will be closed Friday, September 27th due to weather. We will return to normal business hours on Sunday.

City of Clemson

– According to the city of Clemson, all city parks will close Thursday at 5 p.m. Commercial trash collection for downtown businesses will be postponed until the morning of Saturday, September 28th.

–CAT bus routes changed due to Hurricane Helene. The last bus of the evening departs from downtown Clemson on the Red Central route at 11:15 p.m., from Red-Clemson at 11:24 p.m. and from Highpoint Pier at 11:15 p.m

– According to Clemson University. Tigerama, originally scheduled for Friday, September 27th, has been postponed due to predicted inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution related to event setup and travel considerations for artists and guests.

–Tigerama is Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. The X Ambassadors performance is still scheduled to follow the event and all tickets purchased will be honored on October 18th. Ticket information can be found on the Tigerama website.

– Construction of the Central Spirit Float and Habitat for Humanity at Bowman Field will continue, weather permitting.

– According to Central Clemson Recreation Center. Due to bad weather we are postponing our opening on Friday September 27th. We open at 12:00 p.m. If any further changes are made to facility hours or schedules, you will be notified by email as soon as possible.

American Red Cross shelter for those displaced by Hurricane Helene at Crosswell First Baptist in Greenville

The Upstate Chapter of the American Red Cross is opening a shelter at Crosswell First Baptist in Greenville for those displaced by Hurricane Helene.
