Mark Robinson is “excited” to get back to campaigning after being rushed to hospital with burns

According to his campaign, Mark Robinson is in “good spirits” following his hospital stay. North Carolina’s embattled lieutenant governor was admitted Friday after an “incident” during a truck show in which he suffered burns. Despite the health crisis, the 56-year-old is looking forward to the next stage of his election campaign.

Embattled North Carolina Governor Mark Robinson has been hospitalized for burns

“After an incident at a campaign appearance at the Mayberry Truck Show in Mt. Airy, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson was treated for second-degree burns at Northern Regional Hospital this evening,” said Mike Lonergan, Robinson communications director. His campaign also revealed that he has since been fired and will campaign again in the Tar Heel State on Saturday.

“He is in good spirits, appreciates the many well wishes and looks forward to getting back on the campaign trail tomorrow morning as planned,” Lonergan added, according to The Hill. According to a Washington Post reporter, Robinson burned his hand after leaning against a hot truck during his campaign stop at the Mayberry Truck Show in Mt. Airy.

The lieutenant governor’s health concerns come amid the ongoing controversy surrounding him. According to an explosive CNN report, Robinson, who is running for governor of North Carolina against Democrat Josh Stein, recently came under fire for allegedly writing posts on a pornographic website over a decade ago in which he described himself self-described as a “black Nazi”.

In the wake of the damning allegations against Robinson, several of his campaign staffers left the company, while several Republicans distanced themselves from him. One of his many disturbing posts, according to the report, was: “Slavery is not bad. Some people have to be slaves. I wish they would bring it back. I would definitely buy a few.”

Despite the intense backlash, Donald Trump, who previously supported Robinson in the GOP primary for governor, remained tight-lipped about the damning allegations. Meanwhile, Robinson has denied the claims and said Tuesday that he had hired Binnall Law Group to investigate the “false slanders” in the CNN report, according to The Hill.
