Wendy’s is roasting McDonald’s again

  • Wendy’s says it will continue to offer its Frosty dessert for $1 through the end of the month.
  • Her advertising was directed against McDonald’s and accused the competitor of breaking ice cream machines.
  • Wendy’s has previously criticized McDonald’s for using frozen beef, leading to a public feud.

The dispute between Wendy’s and McDonald’s appears to be heating up again.

This week, Wendy’s took aim at its fast-food competitor by announcing that it would continue to serve its small $1 Frosty dairy dessert through the end of the month.

The Frosty “was the go-to sweet treat when fans had cravings while the other guys’ ice cream machines were offline – often for two to three hours at a time,” the chain wrote.

To promote the deal, Wendy’s said it has partnered with the website McBroken.com, which tracks whether the ice cream machine McFlurries makes breaks down at a customer’s local McDonald’s.

Without naming McDonald’s directly, Wendy’s said, “The craving for a sweet treat can strike at any time, but if fans plan on ordering from the others, they may want to avoid lunch or snack time…or really any time between 11 a.m..” .” and 3 p.m., when machines are most often unavailable, according to McBroken.com.”

It’s not the first battle the restaurant chains have waged.

In 2018, Wendy’s launched a national TV advertising campaign criticizing McDonald’s for using frozen beef patties in its hamburgers.

“The iceberg that sank the Titanic was also frozen,” the fast-food outlet said in a Super Bowl commercial featuring McDonald’s beef.

McDonald’s then announced that it would make its quarter-pound burgers with fresh beef in U.S. stores.

This sparked a public backlash from Wendy’s.

“Hey @McDonalds, heard the news,” the rival posted on social media. “Happy #NationalFrozenFoodDay for all that frozen beef stuck in your cheeseburgers.”

Wendy’s and McDonald’s did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s requests for comment outside of normal business hours.
