WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – After completing its regular season non-conference schedule, Wake Forest Volleyball is now focused on the start of Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, which begins this weekend. A conference opener at home against the Virginia Cavaliers is initially scheduled for Friday evening (Sept. 27) at 7 p.m. ET. On Sunday (September 29), the Demon Deacons host Virginia Tech for a showdown at 1 p.m. ET.

Friday and Sunday’s games can be viewed on ACC Network Extra.

The Deacs are currently 8-3 overall and are on a five-game winning streak, including winning four of their first five appearances at Varsity Arena.

Wake Forest will play a total of 20 ACC games over the remainder of the regular season, including 10 at its own stadium. The program is scheduled for the final two seasons (2022-23). achieved at least eight wins against league opponents for years in a row. This performance was a first for Wake Forest since 2009-10.

All home volleyball singles games continue to have free general seating admission. The team plays every home competition at the Varsity Arena, located on the second level of Reynolds Gymnasium (21 Wingate Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27109).

Every year, for Sunday’s game against Virginia Tech (September 29), a “Camper Reunion” is held, where campers from past Wake Forest volleyball summer camps are invited back to cheer on the Deacs and receive special praise on site. Team mini posters will also be given away during the afternoon competition.

Friday, September 20 – Wake Forest 3, App State 1

As Wake Forest returned to its home stadium after a two-week away stretch, Varsity Arena was buzzing as it hosted in-state opponent App State. The Deacons rallied and won three consecutive sets after losing the first en route to a 3-1 victory (18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 27-25).

Rian Baker posted her third double-double of the fall – season-high 27 assists and 13 digs. classmate Paige Crawford finished with a string of 13 kills, six digs and four service aces. Sahara Maruska added 13 kills of his own as well as nine digs.

Dior Charles led all individuals in blocks for the second time in as many games, for a total of seven blocks. The Los Angeles native recorded seven kills on 11 attack attempts (.636). Tina Grkovic She also hit 7 of 11 and suffered just one error (.545).

Becca Bellows contributed 18 assists and a new season high of three aces. Olivia Murphy Scored 10 kills while Emma Farrell led Wake Forest in excavations (14).

Sunday, September 22 – Wake Forest 3, Davidson 2

Wake Forest battled a second in-state opponent this weekend, hosting Davidson on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 22) at Varsity Arena. The Deacs recovered from a 2-1 deficit to clinch the contest in five sets (16-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 15-10).

The win ultimately gave Wake Forest its second weekend win of the fall of 2024.

Laila Ricks And Olivia Murphy Both set new career highs in kills with 18 and 17, respectively. Murphy was exceptional in her attack percentage, the best of her career (.654) and the best by a Deacon hitter since Ashley Slaters .706 batting average at Syracuse last season on October 8, 2023. Ricks was also very solid in her swings (.395) and added five blocks.

Emma Farrell posted a stunning double-double that included a season-high in digs (26) and a new career-high in assists (12). Paige Crawford fell just short of her own double-double – 18 kills (season high) and eight digs.

setter Rian Baker (26 assists and eight digs) and Becca Bellows (27 assists and seven digs) helped control the offensive tempo Tina Grkovic contributed six kills and seven blocks.

Non-Con in the books

The win over Davidson last Sunday was Wake Forest’s final non-conference regular season appearance, as the team went 8-3 against such opponents this year. It currently ranks as the head coach’s second-best clip Randi Smart Epoch.
