Sources: The Knicks are close to making a deal to send Randle and DiVincenzo to the Timberwolves for Towns

The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves are working for Karl-Anthony Towns as part of a Julius Randle-Donte DiVincenzo trade, league sources confirmed to ESPN’s Bobby Marks on Friday night.

Teams are still working out details, but talks have intensified in the last 24 hours, sources said.

The Athletic first reported talks between the teams.

The blockbuster would come just days before training camps began across the NBA and the Knicks would sign a four-time All-Star in Towns along with star guard Jalen Brunson.

The Knicks are already thin at center, and Mitchell Robinson is expected to miss the start of the regular season due to offseason ankle surgery, league sources confirmed to ESPN earlier this week.

Towns has spent all nine of his NBA seasons with Minnesota and, along with Anthony Edwards, helped the Timberwolves reach the Western Conference Finals last season. He would reunite with current Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau, under whom he played in Minnesota (2016-19).
