Stephen King has given his verdict on the hit Netflix thriller Rebel Ridge, which is storming the global charts this week with 16,700,000 views.

The action thriller from Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier follows former Marine Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre)’s fight against small-town police corruption in the fictional town of Shelby Springs.

As he attempts to post bail for his cousin and rescue him from impending danger, he encounters violent prejudice, endless roadblocks, and a larger conspiracy.

The fast-paced film debuted on the streaming platform and was met with great response from critics and adored by fans in equal measure.

The film scored an excellent 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and is now the second most-watched film overall – just behind Joey King’s Uglies.

And one famous fan has made his opinion perfectly clear after best-selling author Stephen King took to X to share his excitement about the film.

“Rebel Ridge: If it’s a Netflix original, it’s one of the best.” A thinking man’s Rambo. “No diss to David Morrell,” he wrote.

He joined the rest of social media in his praise.

“Rebel Ridge was honestly generational.” “Amazing action sequences and killer tension,” wrote @dotbwoy.

“Rebel Ridge is really fantastic.” I really liked the long takes with the tension building. “Well done and kudos to the team,” added @nicknicotera.

“And thank you for giving some air to the dialogue in the post. It was so refreshing to take the characters in that way and see some humanity.”

The New Yorker praised the film as a “police drama of a special kind”.

“The film’s frantically choreographed violence has less power than the characters’ subtle but precise glances of recognition, hostility, or complicity.” “The film’s physicality, in its most important form, is vanishingly small,” the review continues.

Slate critic Jack Hamilton wrote: “Rebel Ridge is that rarest of things, an auteur action thriller with brains, heart and courage, an electrifying and audience-pleasing work of cinema, pulp art at its best.”

Little White Lies called it “sharp and memorable”, while Empire said it was an “undeniably fun evening”.

In an interview with The filmmaker admitted to TheWrap that Star Wars star John Boyega initially played the lead role before having to drop out for “family reasons.”

“We zig-zagged and zig-zagged on this movie. “But when we found Aaron Pierre, there was just this undeniable synergy of holy shit,” Jeremy explained.

In an interview with The New York Times, The Lion King prequel star Aaron also expressed his enthusiasm for the role.

“I have a list of three things that are really important to me when I get involved in a project. That’s the filmmaker, it’s the script and it’s the character. “All three of them were undeniable,” he told the publication.

The 30-year-old actor also gave insight into how he prepared for the more physical aspects of the action role.

“He truly creates an environment where the artist he works with feels safe and can thrive.”

“So he and the stunt team built this huge DIY gym. We had wrestling mats, we had punching bags, we had boxing gloves and we had knee pads for wrestling. It was phenomenal.

“I trained hard. I wrestled, I boxed, I fought. I did all of these things just to get as close as I could to the best version of myself.”

Rebel Ridge is now streaming on Netflix.
