BVB coach Nuri Sahin made three changes after the 5-1 defeat at VfB Stuttgart: Instead of Süle, Nmecha (both bench) and the ailing Sabitzer (not in the squad), Yan Couto (starting eleven debut), Can and Gittens started.

Bochum’s coach Peter Zeidler decided to make two changes after the 2-2 draw against newly promoted Holstein Kiel. Oermann and Losilla started for Masovic (before the child was born) and Daschner (not in the squad).

Kobel makes a mistake, Bero and de Wit shock BVB

After the first ten minutes with a slight advantage for Dortmund, Adeyemi had the first good chance of the game with a header. Drewes parried a shot from Brandt (14th) in the 11th minute. However, VfL did not hide – but showed itself to be more efficient in exploiting opportunities: after a one-two with Hofmann, Bero beat keeper Kobel with a powerful shot in the near corner (16th).

BVB now seemed slightly outnumbered. And after a bad pass from Kobel against Boadu, who followed, de Wit only had to make it 2-0 in the 21st minute. The Sahin team tried to collect themselves, but remained very vulnerable defensively. Boadu, sent steeply from the halfway line, missed a great chance to make it 3-0 for the guests after a good half hour (33′).

Deducted: Matus Bero (right) scores 1-0 for Bochum in a duel with Dortmund's Yan Couto.

Guirassy shortened per capita, Can ice cold

Only then did Borussia manage to get the game under control a little better. There were further good chances in the final minutes before the break: Brandt narrowly missed from the five-yard box (39′), then Passlack made a desperate block against Guirassy (43′). The striker who came from Stuttgart didn’t let himself be bitten a second time. After Brandt was very free to attack the flanks, Guirassy headed in to make it 1-2 at half-time.

After halftime, Dortmund remained in command. Drewes directed a Groß shot just over the crossbar (50′), then it was Passlack again who just blocked another shot attempt from Groß (56′). The agile and eye-catching ex-Dortmunder Passlack became a tragic hero in the 60th minute when he was just too late for a tackle in the penalty area against Guirassy. Can confidently converted the penalty to make it 2-2 (61′).

Guirassy for second – Drewes also makes a mistake

Only after the equalizer did Bochum appear offensive again in the second half: Broschinski forced Kobel into a save (64′). But BVB was now more compelling and finally turned the game around in the 75th minute: Guirassy, who was wonderfully played by Adeyemi, scored the 3-2 without being in front of Drewes.

But that’s not enough. Joker Nmecha made the final score 4-2 just a few minutes after he came in – with the help of Drewes, who let it slip through (81′). Shortly before the end, Can failed to hit the outside post against the now dissolving VfL defense (87th).
