As the remnants of Hurricane Helene move toward Ohio, a high wind warning is in effect in the Cincinnati area, prompting cancellations and adjustments to outdoor events. Some schools are also releasing students early and canceling activities.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington issued the warning Friday morning for most counties in southwest Ohio, from Cincinnati to Dayton. In the Cincinnati area, the warning was issued for Hamilton, Butler, Clermont and Warren counties in Ohio and Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties in northern Kentucky. The warning is valid until 10 p.m. Strong winds are accompanied by heavy rainfall.

Cancellations

  • The Kroger Wellness Festival has canceled all events scheduled for Friday, the supermarket company said in a news release. The cancellation was due to the forecast of “strong winds,” the press release said. Kroger added that the festival had been in contact with city officials and meteorologists for days leading up to the event.
  • Kings Island will be closed Friday evening as remnants of Hurricane Helene move into the Greater Cincinnati region. Mason Amusement Park said its decision to close was “out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our guests and employees,” citing the National Weather Service’s dangerous weather forecast of high winds and rain Friday evening. Anyone who has a ticket for Friday can use it on any other day the park is open through Nov. 3, Kings Island said.
  • Art After Dark: The Remix at the Cincinnati Art Museum is making adjustments for the event on Friday, September 27th due to damaging winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Helene. The museum announced on Facebook Friday morning that all Art After Dark performances, including a free concert by acclaimed hip-hop artist and DJ Talib Kweli, would be moving to the museum. The venue said the change means a capacity limit will be enforced indoors, so visitors are advised to arrive early. The Cincinnati Art Museum had previously announced that the concert would take place in the parking lot outside the venue, rain or shine. The parking lot is now open for guests to park. Surplus parking is available at 640 Eden Park Drive and free Cincinnati Metro shuttles are available to the museum.
