Fall may have arrived, but Phoenix is still breaking heat records. Thursday marks the hottest September 27 on record, and Friday’s forecast is also expected to break that date’s record. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures reached 110 degrees in Phoenix on Thursday afternoon. That broke the record set in 1989, when the temperature reached 108 degrees, according to the weather service.

The high temperature for Friday is 113 degrees, which would break the record of 107 degrees set in 2009, said National Weather Service meteorologist Gabriel Lojero. Saturday will be even hotter, but Lojero offered a silver lining: “Saturday seems to be the culmination of everything,” he said. The expected high temperature for Saturday is a scorching 115 degrees.

“We could have record temperatures for at least six, seven days in a row,” Lojero said. “We’re breaking these records by at least five degrees.”

Temperatures will be around 110 degrees for the remainder of the weekend and the first part of next week.

Thursday marked “three consecutive days of record-breaking temperatures,” Lojero said.

Wednesday’s high of 113 degrees set a record for the latest day with temperatures above 110 degrees. The previous record was September 19, set in 2010.
