Bengaluru cafe under fire after phone found recording video in ladies’ toilet

In another incident that raised safety concerns about women using public toilets, a woman from Bengaluru on Saturday (August 10) claimed that she found a phone with recording mode in a dustbin of a popular cafe. The woman shared the horrific experience on social media and said the phone belonged to an employee of the cafe. A complaint has been filed and the police are said to have launched an investigation into the matter.

The incident took place at Third Wave Coffee on BEL Road in Bengaluru. The phone was reportedly on airplane mode and had been recording videos for the past two hours. The camera was pointed at the ladies’ restroom while the phone was safely tucked away in a garbage bag with a small hole in it.

The incident was shared on Instagram by an account with the identification “@gangsofcinepur”.

The cafe responded to the post saying it was taking strict action against the employee. It said: “The safety and wellbeing of our customers is always our priority. Third Wave Coffee has a strict zero tolerance policy and the individual in question at the BEL Road store was immediately dismissed and necessary legal action has been taken.”

Previously, the woman who had experienced this ordeal had told her story on Instagram.

User “@gangsofcinepur” wrote: “I was at a branch of @thirdwavecoffeeindia in Bengaluru this morning and this is what happened: A woman found a phone hidden in a dustbin in the washroom. It had been recording video for about two hours and was pointed at the toilet seat. It was set to flight mode so it doesn’t make any noise and carefully hidden in a trash bag with a hole made in it so only the camera was visible.”

“It quickly became apparent that the phone belonged to one of the men working there. The police were called and soon arrived. Action is being taken.”

“This was so horrible to watch. I will be vigilant in every toilet I use from now on, no matter how well known the café or restaurant chain is. And I ask all of you to do the same. This is absolutely disgusting.”
