We barely reached the final nine of the Presidents Cup on Thursday, and there’s already bad blood between the U.S. and international teams. The most shocking part? It appears to be between best buddies Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim.

It started with seemingly innocent trash talk: Kim made a long birdie putt on the par-3 seventh and celebrated accordingly. Then Scheffler responded and shouted: “WHAT WAS THAT?!” in Kim’s direction. Kim laughed at that, but Scheffler certainly didn’t look like he was messing around.

On the very next green, Kim and her partner Sungjae Im were the first to hole a birdie putt. The international duo then left the green and made their way to the ninth tee. The problem? Scheffler still had a birdie to tie the hole and maintain his and Russell Henley’s 2 lead. During a normal tour event, finishing the ball and moving to the next tee while a playing partner still needs to finish is a perfect way to maintain the pace of play. During a match play or team event where your opponent still has a putt to tie? That’s a no-no.

On-track commentator John Wood immediately called attention to Kim and Im’s departure, saying, “It’s definitely a little uneasy in this group at the moment.” Analyst Paul McGinley then asked Wood, “So you can’t see how (Scheffler) putts?”

“They’re 60 yards away on the ninth tee and they’re not watching,” Wood replied.

NBC play-by-play man Dan Hicks deftly threw the question to McGinley right after: “What do you think of this Paul?” McGinley didn’t hold back.

“This borders on bad behavior,” McGinley said. “I think that’s disrespectful. I know there’s competition out there, but it definitely shows that there’s a fundamental advantage here, that it’s not all fun and games.”

Scheffler then missed the putt, giving Kim and Im a much-needed win and reducing the match to 1 minus. They scored on the ninth, then Scheffler made a 25-foot birdie on the 10th, leading to a muted reaction. Kim then holed his 20-footer to halve the birdie. After ten holes, Scheffler and Henley still lead by one. Should be a very, very interesting ending to this game. Let’s hope everyone puts their best foot forward.
