In their 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, the New York Giants had several key moments that defined the game, including a crucial fourth-period decision early in the second half. Head coach Brian Daboll explained the team’s decision to kick a field goal instead of going for a touchdown after an 11-play, 77-yard drive.

“We wanted to get points… to get three points. It was a close game and we didn’t know what we would need in the end, but we wanted to do it,” said Daboll.

The drive was capped with a reception by Wan’Dale Robinson, whose catch brought the Giants to the Cowboys’ 3-yard line. Although the Giants were able to score the touchdown, they settled for a 22-yard field goal from Greg Joseph that pulled them within two points, 14-12.

Analysis of the play suggested that it was the better play, albeit by a small margin.

“It’s a tough decision because you want to score the points,” offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor said of the decision to kick the field goal. “If you can’t do that, they’ll get the ball back with full swing. (2:06) You get the points and it’s 14-12.”
