The Twins escaped early and earned an 8-3 win over the Marlins

“Louie comes in and shuts them down like he did and he’s just Louie, man. “The barking in the dugout gets you going,” said Byron Buxton, who hit a game-winning home run in the fourth inning, ending a 63-inning drought without a home run. “He wants to get back out there. Just before you go out, he barks at you and says, ‘He’s ready.'”

The Twins loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning after consecutive errors by the Marlins defense and a single by Trevor Larnach. Correa’s baserunning error wiped out a potential lead.

Royce Lewis delivered a first-pitch fastball to left field, where Griffin Conine made a diving catch after running five steps forward. Correa, the runner on second base, thought the ball was falling and took several steps toward third base. Before Martin crossed home plate, where he should have easily scored when he made the catch, Correa was thrown out at second base to end the inning.

“Just stupid baserunning,” Correa said. “This should never happen. Just bad baserunning. Unacceptable.”

For the first time in what seemed like a few weeks, the twins made up for their mistakes.

“The guys stuck with it,” Baldelli said. “It’s not easy when you’re down, and down early. It’s a challenging thing. We almost pretend it’s not like that, but it is.”
