MGK brings in Lainey Wilson for surprise duet of “Lonely Road” at Nashville Show: Watch

When artists perform in a music-centric city like Nashville, there’s always a good chance they’ll welcome a special guest or two. Machine Gun Kelly did just that, bringing country star power to his acoustic set on Tuesday night (September 24) as part of the 107.5 River on the Rooftop concert series at Skydeck on Broadway in downtown Music City.

“I’m going to need some help. Is my friend Lainey Wilson here?” As MGK welcomed reigning CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year Wilson to the stage, he asked the audience to join him for “Lonely Road.” MGK previously recorded the song with Wilson’s labelmate Jelly Roll, who was headlining a show on his Beautifully Broken Tour that evening in Albany, NY.

During the MGK/Wilson collaboration, the “Heart Like a Truck” singer took over the song’s second verse, infusing it with her signature soulful country accent, particularly during the moments when the song features the John Denver classic interpolated, some powerful high notes delivered “Take me home, country roads.”

The Wilson duet at the “Bloody Valentine” singer’s Skydeck show on Broadway isn’t his only country connection this week. On Thursday (September 26), MGK will also perform during the People’s Choice Country Awards, which will air from the Grand Ole Opry House.
