Brian Daboll reflects on the Giants’ strong win over the Browns

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll recognized his team’s resilience and determination in defeating the Cleveland Browns. After the game, Daboll emphasized the emotional significance of the day, which marked the third anniversary of his grandmother’s death.

“Just a normal NFL game. Competitive. “Showed a lot of resilience on the road, especially in the way the game started,” Daboll said. “This is the third anniversary of my grandmother’s death, which is today, the 22nd. She raised me and I basically left her in charge after the first two plays – what the hell do you have in store for me? But the boys fought, I was proud of the way they fought.

“This is a good football team. Defensively they are a good football team and I think we found a rhythm early in the game and made some plays. Made a few saves in the second half but made a play at the end to seal the win. “Motor” (Devin Singletary) did a great job. There are a lot of ups and downs in the game, some fumbles. There was another mistake in the second half that we had to deal with, but the guys in uniform in the room showed a lot of perseverance. Proud of these guys.”

About Wide Receiver Malik Nabers…

Nabers had eight receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns in a spectacular performance. However, Daboll pointed to a play where Nabers prevented an interception.

“For him to have the awareness to knock the ball down, that play tells me more about Malik than some of the other things,” Daboll said. “Everyone can see the touchdowns, but the unselfish play, the smart play he made, it was a big play in the game. Huge.”

About the resilience of the team…

“We’ve been talking about this since OTAs. We talk about resilience and commitment to each other, teamwork and discipline, attitude. Every game has its ups and downs, every season has its ups and downs. That’s something we preach internally,” Daboll said. “You know, our boys have inner confidence, but it’s good to get a result.

“The process was right, I believe in our process and I’ve said that before. So their commitment to each other, their next-play mentality – the things we’ve been preaching for a long time. You did it. Everyone wants to see results and this is a results business. I believe in what we do and how we do things. I think that showed that when you’re on the move, it’s not always going to work out, get a touchdown right after the fumble, just stay locked in and committed to the next play mentality, and that’s the case today . I give our guys a lot of credit.”

About quarterback Daniel Jones…

“Another good week. He had two good weeks in a row,” said Daboll. “I don’t know, another quarterback rating over a hundred, two touchdowns, no interceptions, handled the noise well. Did a great job not turning the football over.

“He was locked up and that’s what he was.”

To the defense game…

“Yeah, it was great. I don’t know if we had eight sacks or something. There was also pressure,” said Daboll. “It’s not just about the pass rush, but also how you play the game in a complementary way. The hardest thing is protecting the quarterback when you know he has to throw it. So I thought it was one of our better free football games to date.”
