Sabrina Carpenter reflects on life in Toronto and covers Shania Twain at her concert at the Scotiabank Arena

Sabrina Carpenter shared a fond memory during her Toronto concert last night.

The American pop star brought her Short N’ Sweet Tour to the Scotiabank Arena for the third time. She played a sold-out show and introduced her eponymous album, which has been No. 1 on Billboard’s Canadian album chart for the past four weeks.

During the show, she took some time to recall past memories of the city, telling the screaming crowd that she had lived in Toronto for a few months a few years ago. She loved visiting thrift stores and the local chain Jimmy’s Coffee, she recalled. “I felt like a local – I wasn’t,” she said. “Since I returned to Toronto,” she continued, “you have warmly welcomed me.”

Carpenter turned back the clock even further for her first-ever show in Toronto. She remembered playing at Mod Club (now renamed Axis Club) as a young teenager, 15 or 16. “There were four of you there and you’re here tonight,” she joked. “It’s been such a wild journey and whenever you’ve come to see me, whether it’s at the Mod Club or on the road or tonight and this is your first time going to one of my shows, I feel like this, like that.” I’m glad you’re here.

Carpenter also grabbed a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey while performing her hit song “Espresso,” which was gifted to her by Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment. And she covered Canadian icon Shania Twain with a performance of “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
