A transient Cape Coral man is charged with animal cruelty after authorities said he violently kicked a dog the same day he was released from the Lee County Jail on fraud and theft charges.

20-year-old Ry’Quell Bell faces animal cruelty charges.

Around 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Cape Coral police officers responded to an apartment on Steeple Circle where a resident reported he had video footage of Bell abusing two dogs.

Police said video showed Bell letting the dogs into an apartment before kicking a dog. The dog fell on its side and yelped and cried.

Another video showed Bell letting the dogs out of an apartment and then hitting one with a bottle. This dog was also heard screaming loudly, the police said.

Police said their investigation determined Bell was not the owner of the dogs. Police said the dogs remained in the care of their owner.
