Musician Sabrina Carpenter represents the Maple Leafs’ custom jersey at the Toronto concert on Wednesday

It’s not unusual for musicians to pay tribute to local sports teams during performances, and Sabrina Carpenter was no exception at her Wednesday night concert at Scotiabank Arena, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs. While performing her hit song “Espresso,” Carpenter wore a customized, bedazzled Leafs jersey with her last name and the glittering number 24 on the back.

This concert was the third stop on their “Short N’ Sweet” tour, which began in August and will last until March 2025. Interestingly, the number is worn by Leafs forward Connor Dewar, but it is believed that Carpenter chose it to symbolize the year 2024 and its connection to their tour.

During the performance, she showed up with a cup labeled “Toronto,” presumably filled with espresso, and unveiled the customized jersey to the delight of fans.

Carpenter wasn’t the only artist to reference the Leafs at a concert this summer. Rapper “50 Cent” sparked some controversy at his show in Boston in July when he took the stage wearing a Leafs cap and mocked Bruins fans. Given the legendary rivalry between the two franchises, this was obviously a clear dig at the fan base.

Over the next six months, Carpenter will travel throughout the United States and parts of Canada for her tour, including stops at the TD Garden in Boston and the Bell Center in Montreal in October. It will be interesting to see if she wears other NHL team uniforms and potentially represents the Bruins or Canadiens among the other potential cities of the 29 teams she could face.
