The Detroit Tigers’ playoff push continues this weekend at Comerica Park against the Chicago White Sox for the final three games of the 2024 MLB regular season.

The Tigers pulled off a 4-3 comeback win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday to move closer to a wild-card spot in the American League playoffs.

The Tigers’ magic number is 2 and they can clinch a playoff spot on Friday. They need a combination of two wins against the White Sox or losses to the Minnesota Twins (the Twins have four games left) to secure a postseason bid. The Tigers’ magic number with Kansas City is 4; The Tigers are tied for the second wild card spot with the Royals, but the Royals own the tiebreaker.

The Tigers (85-74) were seven games under .500 as of Aug. 11 and had less than a 1% chance of reaching the postseason according to multiple forecasting models, but have since posted a 29-11 record, including four wins in Follow and eight of nine to move 2½ games ahead of the Twins and clinch the third and final wild card spot.

The excitement surrounding the Tigers is at its peak and luck continues to favor them. According to Fangraphs, the Tigers’ chance of making the playoffs was less than 1% (with 11 games remaining as of August 10) and is now 91.5%.

There is expected to be a full house at Comerica as the Tigers attempt to close out the season against the White Sox, who tied the single-season losing record set in 1901 with their 120th loss on Sunday.
