The Chiefs reunite with a shocking pass catcher ahead of the Chargers showdown in Week 4

The Chiefs have their second surprise bye before Week 4 against the Chargers, as former fan favorite Jody Fortson is reportedly signing with Kansas City’s practice squad.

Fortson spent the summer with the Miami Dolphins but was released before the season. Now he will join a deep tight end room that already includes Travis Kelce, Noah Gray and Jared Wiley, as well as Peyton Hendershot on the practice squad.

It’s an amazing development, but a clear sign that the organization still believes in Fortson’s abilities in the red zone.

Prior to Thursday’s news, there were no reports of a possible reunion. He spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with Kansas City before missing all of 2023 due to injury. During his time with the team, Fortson caught 14 passes for 155 yards and four touchdowns.

With a height of 1.90 meters and a weight of 110 kilograms as well as strong athleticism, Fortson is a unique weapon. While he’s unlikely to make much of an impact, he still provides some security at the position, especially after some struggles from Travis Kelce early in the season.

RB Keaontay Ingram also returned to the practice squad, while Kareem Hunt was officially added to the active roster. Fortson hasn’t played a game since 2022, but he’s still only 28 years old and has shown enough potential for Kansas City to bring him back.

It’s great to see another former Chief return to where it all began and we hope for the best for this season and beyond.
