Port Richmond – Did you just buy a lottery ticket in Philadelphia? Maybe today is your lucky day!

A winning Powerball ticket for Monday’s drawing was sold at Sak Traders Inc. at 3670 Richmond Street in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Mike Jones, a disappointed regular customer at the store, said, “Oh man, I come here all the time. I wish I had won.”

Another regular Powerball player, Seamus Haggerty, said, “I should have played Powerball on Monday.”

“Are you buying tickets?” asked FOX 29’s Dawn Timmeney.

“All the time. Just this week I didn’t. I don’t know why.”

Many would haves, should haves, could haves as news spread that Saks Traders Inc.’s Richmond APlus Sunoco store had sold the $1 million Powerball ticket.

The ticket is worth $1 million if all five white balls 15-21-25-37-45 are matched, but not the red Powerball 19.

Sak Traders Inc. will receive a bonus of $5,000 for the sale of the winning ticket.

Garfield Simpson carefully checked whether luck was on his side: “The first thing that went through my mind was whether it was my fault, because I didn’t check my ticket and I’m playing my numbers here. But maybe another day.”

The store has had winners of $100,000, but never $1 million.

“This is the first time. We are excited. I think this is really a stroke of luck,” said employee Rafi Islam.

Simpson added: “I know it’s a lucky store.”
Timmeney asked, “So, are you coming back?”
“Always, always. It’s my favorite store,” Simpson replied.

The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing is now estimated at $223 million.
