Melania Trump accuses Democrats and media of “fomenting a toxic atmosphere” that led to her husband’s assassination attempts

Melania Trump accused Democrats and the mainstream media of “fomenting a toxic atmosphere” that led to two assassination attempts on her husband.

In her first interview in over two years, the former First Lady spoke of the “outrageous violence” against Donald Trump, repeating her husband’s rhetoric that the blame lies with his political rivals.

“It is really shocking that all this outrageous violence is happening against my husband,” she said Fox & Friendsby Ainsley Earhardt, referring to the July 13 assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and the second foiled attempt on September 15 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“Especially because we hear opposition party leaders and mainstream media leaders branding him a threat to democracy and calling him the most vile names,” Melania continued.

“They are only creating a toxic atmosphere and giving power to all those who want to harm him.”

She added: “This has to stop. The country has to unite.”

In Butler, Trump was grazed in the ear by a bullet fired by would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Melania recalled “running to the television” after learning of the assassination attempt and watching her husband being dragged to the ground.

“I didn’t actually see it live, but maybe, you know, three minutes, a couple of minutes later. But when I saw it, it was, you know, just… Nobody really knew. Because when you see him lying on the ground and you don’t know what really happened,” she said.

She called both events “miracles,” and when Earhardt asked if it was “as if God had spared his life?” Melania replied, “Yes.”

“I think something was watching over him,” she said. “When you really think about it, July 13 was a miracle. So much so…” she said – pointing to a small gap with her thumb and forefinger to indicate how close the bullet came to missing Trump’s brain – “…and he couldn’t be with us.”

“I think something was watching over him,” she said. “It’s almost like the country really needed him.”

Melania also revealed that she was unable to speak to Trump immediately. “First of all, the Secret Service was also unavailable because they were with him, right?” she said.

“And after that I called the secret service and they said he was fine. ‘We’re on the way to the hospital.'”

Trump then spoke on the phone with his wife and youngest son, Barron Trump, 18.

“The way he stood up after the assassination of Trump and said, ‘Fight, fight, fight,'” shows his strength, Melania added.

After the second assassination attempt, when the former president was golfing at Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Trump tried to blame Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden.

“He believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris and acted on it,” Trump told Fox News the next day, referring to Ryan Routh, the suspect charged with attempted murder of Trump in Florida.

“Their rhetoric is putting me under fire when I am the one who is going to save the country and they are the ones who are destroying the country – both from within and from without.”

Melania was also asked to name qualities in her husband that could encourage his opponents to become MAGA supporters.

“He’s a real family man. He loves his family. He loves this country. And all he wants is to build, build better… and prosper,” she claimed.
