For the first time, the Russian armed forces used Shahed-136, equipped with Starlink — DE satellite communications

In today’s night attack on objects in Ukraine, the Russian armed forces used the Shahed-136 (Geranium-2) drone, equipped with the Starlink satellite connection from SpaceX, reports the Defense Express edition.

“Russian forces have installed Starlink on Shahed-136: that’s an almost unlimited communication range for a UAV flying 2,000 km. This is the first time the enemy has used Shahed with Starlink, but it probably won’t be the last,” writes Defense Express.

It is alleged that a drone equipped with a Starlink satellite connection was shot down by the Ukrainian armed forces while repelling a night attack by the Russian armed forces on objects in Ukraine.

“This is a way to receive feedback from the drone and transmit information from it, as well as change the flight task from any distance. That is, Shahed is transformed into a reconnaissance tool,” DE explains, according to Strana.

DE reports that such a connection may be necessary for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, for example, to transmit radio-collected information about the position of Ukrainian air defense systems or, if the drone is equipped with cameras, images. At the same time, this will be done in a mode that is unlikely to be fixed, DE emphasizes.

“It should also be added that thanks to Starlink and the camera installed in the Russian Federation, they can use Shahed as an extremely long-range blocking munition, with the possibility of additional reconnaissance and destruction of even moving targets,” the article says.

As reported by EADailyTactical aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops and artillery groups of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation over the past few days have destroyed the radio communications center of the AFU, workshops for the production and storage of UAVs, as well as enemy manpower and military equipment in 153 areas, this was reported in the latest daily report of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
