Adam Sandler is a comedy legend since his tenure in Saturday Night Live to his long list of successful films. The most eagerly awaited upcoming Adam Sandler film is the sequel to Happy Gilmorea project that has taken decades to complete. Fans can’t wait to see the goofy title character back on screen, along with newcomers like Margaret Qualley. And it’s tied into the story of why Jack Antonoff completely lied to Adam Sandler when Happy Gilmore 2 came together.

What we know about Happy Gilmore 2 is limited, but filming began in September in New Jersey. Margaret Qualley is currently promoting her role in The substance (which was highly acclaimed by critics) led her to an appearance at The Tonight Show with Jimmy FallonThere she confirmed that she would have a role in Adam Sandler’s sequel and said:

It was the best thing that ever happened to me. It’s a tiny role. I’m basically a deep background, but I can die happy now… It’s my first love, my favorite movie. And I adore Adam Sandler. Like everyone else, I think he’s the greatest of all time.

Clearly the star of maid (which streams with a Netflix subscription) is serious about Adam Sandler. She was willing to do anything to join the cast of Happy Gilmore 2but unfortunately it was her husband, musician Jack Antonoff, who ended up having to do the dirty work.

In the same conversation with Fallon, Qualley explained how desperate she was to be part of Happy Gilmore’s long-awaited sequel. While this 1996 classic isn’t one of Adam Sandler’s best romantic comedies, it is one of his most iconic films of all time. As Qualley put it:

I saw the announcement that there was going to be a Happy Gilmore 2. And I immediately emailed my agent and said, “Whatever it takes. No role is too small. Please. I have to be in it. I’m begging you, please, whatever it takes.”

Antonoff had to intervene. After Qualley’s representatives contacted the relevant authorities, Happy Gilmore 2The Grammy-winning producer and musician got a text from the Sandman. He was asked if Qualley could play golf, and he said she was very good. The only problem: She can’t play golf. In her words:

He lied for the sake of the family… I’m actually awful.

Now that’s what I call support. Antonoff knew exactly how much Qualley admired Adam Sandler and All the best, Gilmore, and wouldn’t hurt her chances of appearing in the upcoming comedy. And it worked out, as she ended up landing a small role in the sequel. We’ll just have to wait and see who she ends up playing.

Qualley can currently be seen alongside Demi Moore in The substancein theaters now. Check out the 2025 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
