Jack Antonoff ‘lied’ to get her lucky role in ‘Gilmore 2’

Margaret Qualley said she could “die happy now” after landing a role in Happy Gilmore 2However, her husband Jack Antonoff had to tell a little lie about her golf experience to help her get the role.

At a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy FallonThe actress described the original 1996 comedy starring Adam Sandler as her “favorite film” and the star as her “first love,” so when she learned of the upcoming Netflix sequel, she was determined to do whatever she could to star in it.

“I saw that there was a Happy Gilmore 2 and I immediately emailed my agent and said, ‘Whatever it takes – no role is too small. Please. I have to be in this, I’m begging you. Please. Whatever it takes,'” Qualley recalls.

Moderator Jimmy Fallon then showed a text message conversation between Antonoff and Sandler in which the Crime 2 Star asked, “Does your wife even play golf?” The Bleachers frontman replied, “Yes, she’s actually good.”

However, this did not necessarily have to be the truth.

“What a good husband. And I can’t play golf,” Qualley admitted. “He lied for the sake of the family. … I’ve never played a day of golf in my life. In fact, I’m terrible.”

Qualley added that the Happy Gilmore 2 The role was “the best thing that ever happened to me,” even if it was only a “tiny role.” She continued: “I’m basically a deep background, but I can die happy now.”

The Kyle Newacheck-directed film, which began production in New Jersey earlier this month, not only features Sandler back in the cast, but also Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will reprise their roles for the sequel. Travis Kelce and Bad Bunny will also be joining the cast.
